Zakwe –The Winner of the 1st South African Hip Hop awards for best Lyricist and the The Metro Fm awards 2013 for Best Hip Hop artist.  This is not just a rapper but also a leader in the making and an actor born and bred KwaMashu in the late 80’s. This Kasi rapper has made mark with his strong voice, great lyrics, Kasi stories and black consciousness. It is now official, that Zakwe is the second up and coming emcee from KZN after Zuluboy

Before releasing his Debut Album in November 2011, Zakwe has released a number of mixtapes titled: STREET MUSIC.  The mixtapes  made a huge impact in the underground scene as two of his tracks within the tape entered in Hype Sessions and received massive airplay.

This 24 year old Kasi rapper is seriously on the move and with his experience and hard working team; it is not doubtable that he will deliver for the long awaiting masses.

Having worked hard in 2010, promoting his mixtape and featuring on Zuluboy’s album ‘iGoda’, Zakwe has definitely earned his stripes and street cred in his hometown of Durban – and a stamp saying ‘the streets have recognized that the soldier is most definitely ready for war’.   Zakwe’s long-anticipated album is in the shelves at most music retail shops around the country and since its release in November 2011 it has sold close to gold.   Zakwe’s two hit singles “Bathi Ng’yachoma”and Benzani are on high rotation on Yfm, Metro fm, Gagasi fm, Ukhozi fm, Umhlobo Wenene fm and a lot of community radio stations.  Zakwe’s talent has been noticed by many and has earned performances in all provinces around the country including prominent endorsement deal with SAB Miller, Hennesey and performances at 2011 Metro fm awards in Mpumalanga and South Africa Music Awards 2012 and 2013 as well as opening for one of the greatest US rapper Kanye West on his shoe in February 2013 at the Dome in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Zakwe has received 5 (five) nominations for the 18th Annual MTN South Afrcan Music Awards (SAMA) for his debut album self tittled ZAKWE.  He was nominated for:

 

  1. Best Street Urban album
  2. Remix of the year for Bathi Ng’yachoma remix feturing Zuluboy and danger
  3. Album of the year for debut album ZAKWE
  4. Male artist of the year
  5. Newcomer of the year

Zakwe has won best Lyricist award at the 1st SA Hip Hop awards 2012 and Best Hip Hop artist for the metro fm awards 2013.
