The afro-soul vocal songstress and Native Rhythms own Afro diva has once again released a stunning album, which is a sequel to her multi-award winning debut album ‘Ubuntu bam’. Another Lawrence Matshiza production, executive produced by the award winning Malambule, this time Siphokazi has decided to give thanks to South African music lovers and the world all over with an appropriately titled album ‘Ndinovuyo’ – loosely translated ‘I am full with joy’.
A definite for world music lovers this album is abundant with deep Afro-Soul melodies rooted in heavy Xhosa harmonies and ethno-trad rhythms, laced with Zulu maskandi guitar reefs and vocal chants. An interesting feature on the album izimpempe and uvududu (traditional Zulu whistles) and the maskandi guitar: two genuine musical instruments that have tugged many hearts, and give the album a divine feeling that makes you wanna break into ancestral chant.
Siphokazi’s second album comes with great anticipation after her critically acclaimed debut album earned her respect in the music industry and went on to sell closed to 100 000 units. Her instantaneous success could be predicted when she scooped 2 coveted awards for Best Newcomer and Best Adult Contemporary African albums at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs). Siphokazi sealed the year off by walking away with the most awards at the 2007 Metro Fm Awards when she once again scooped Best Female, Best Newcomer, & Best Produced Album. In 2008 he Kora Awards also recognized Siphokazi’s vocal artistry and nominated her under the Best Southern African Artist category.
